Hello beautiful people, I hope you have had a truly superb, warm and sexy week and perhaps enjoyed hosting "For Morale” a little more, if you chose to after last week’s hygge ramble.
As for me; “For Morale” encouraged me to join the #inktober Instagram challenge. I believe it’s meant to be prompts for “Pen & Ink” drawings, however I cannot resist adding some colour to my journal and doodling. I’ve had some fun playing with the ideas and received some lovely comments on my interpretations of the week’s prompts.
Which / Witch brings me to admitting (maybe you noticed?!) I haven’t yet shared an "Art Witching" prompt and ideas post for the Ostara Sabbat. For Imbolc I shared some ideas involving candles you might have liked to light and incorporate into your journalling or art magick practise. For Matariki (Māori New Year) you may recall we made manu tukutuku (kites) to reach the whetū (stars) and the Winter Solstice / Yule was a festive assortment.
I do have another idea which I believe to be uniquely personalising and a bit quirky for you to explore. Ideal for any type of journalling, also rather fun for letters and other correspondence. It’s not limited to Ostara, or Spring, but I believe one that encapsulates and illustrates the beauty, colour and warmth of this especially fun, sexy and fertile time of year.
I hope to share this with you all very soon. I’m also working on my main post for Beltane (31st Oct / 1st Nov) - Yes, we are flying through the wheel at great speed! So next Sunday, being as the New Moon begins waxing at 06:55 NZDT 15th October, there will be no “Hygge Highlights” but instead a Fiery & Floral-y enriched list of prompts to honour and celebrate “Whiringa-ā-nuku” the 5th lunar month of Maramataka.
Hygge = “hoo-gah” from Danish, meaning “the essence of what is good.”
"Hygge Highlights" is a weekly roundup of magical, feel good moments, cosy feelings and ideas. Some are generously shared by you through comments and chats, I also share the things in my week which felt especially good, or gave me a sense warmth and wonder.
If you enjoyed receiving this week’s edition, please consider sharing your own magical ideas, moments and cosy comforts by leaving a comment. Sharing the post with others is much, much appreciated as we grow a community “High on Hygge”.
Since our recent hygge discussions the delightful Jenna discovered and shared with me a Substack entirely devoted to the 72 microseasons ! Oh, how I seriously need to find a quiet few moments (for morale!) and dive in more deeply to Ann Collins’ “Microseasons.” I did happen to go back to the first week of April, to read what was akin to our Southern Hemisphere week here in October. Where Ann wrote about starting a seasonal sketchbook, which felt serendipitous and heart warming. I particularly loved this paragraph…
I want to have a comfortable expectation of what’s coming, and yet still allow myself to be awed by what I find on my daily walks. This is what I love about observing the Microseasons. Sometimes what I feel is a wild jumble of beautiful colors and textures.

On Instagram I’ve been (over?)sharing pictures of my super sexy tulips. No surprise these big bold beauties are a favourite of mine. Vicky, (@thelittleforagerskitchen) who generously shares her “Wilderness Therapy” foraging food knowledge and wild recipes from Scotland, alerted me to tulip petals being edible! How did this knowledge escape me?! I’m not sure, but I’m excited to experiment. Did you know we could eat them? Apparently each colour and variety taste quite different, from sweet and lettuce like, to quite hot and peppery as in rocket. On more research Google lead me to this 2013 article from the Guardian.
Well that’s all from me this week. Actually, no. There’s one last request and that is...
If you’re eligible to vote in our New Zealand General Election and haven’t done so yet, no matter who you are, where you are, or how you feel about politics. Please, please do vote! It’s ever so important and a privilege that continues to be denied to many, and was fought long and hard for. Please don’t let this one slide by. Thank you!
Seasons Blessings 💫

I LOVE your puppy cloud, Bron! Adorable! And I had no idea that tulips are edible. I will keep that in mind when spring comes back around here. I have been using "For Morale" ALL WEEK. It really is a game changer for me. Thank you so much for introducing me to that, and to the whole concept of microseasons! 🤗
I love reading and seeing that you’re doing inktober, and I completely understand that you can't help adding some colour to your artwork! I hope you share more of your beautiful art.
And thank for the reminder of the new moon coming up!
