On deciding when to publish The Imbolc Lioness Newsletter, I contemplated when I should? Knowing many writers publish their main digest on the first of the month. I really wanted to do something a bit different. Firstly to ease the load of new readers and secondly, to stand out from the crowd. A new moon being traditionally a positive time to set new intentions and affirmations seemed rather appropriate with what I envisioned I will write and share.
The new moon is the first phase of the lunar cycle and is identified as a crescent moon, being the very first sliver of light from the sun's reflection on the moon’s surface. The remaining moon still being in our / the Earth’s shadow. In Aotearoa, New Zealand, indeed the Southern Hemisphere, the crescent appears and waxes / grows larger from the left, where as in the Northern Hemisphere it waxes from the right.
A Sentimental Moon - the first festive decoration my J and I bought together. We hung it above the dining table in our first flat, along with fairy lights pinned into the ceiling, romantically, (in our minds at least!) representing constellations. Today 27 years, 3 kids on, it still hangs above our dining table, all year round.
The new moon seemed to mirror my love of Imbolc - the first sabbat or season after Yule. Also known as Imbolg, St. Brigid's day, Candlemas or Groundhog Day. Imbolc marks the awakening of Spring, midway between the Winter Solstice / Yule and the Spring or Vernal Equinox. I don't want to get too heavily into everything Imbolc today, except to say, that it is a time of rumblings. The very early stages of Spring, a sliver, with a new shoot here, a new shoot there. Imbolc is the developing idea of a warmer future.
This is my intention, to share at least a monthly publication with each new moon. In these newsletters I plan to share seasonal prompts, explore cultural observances, acknowledge the turning wheel with celebratory notes and recipes. Give you the seeds of seasonal ideas if you like, which you can then take and sow. Obviously if they appeal to you and spark your interest. I encourage you to go on to develop these ideas further, build your own seasonal rituals and traditions. Explore and manifest more magic in your own ways, to create joyful abundance and blessings in your life.
I will no doubt share more ideas between the monthly new moon editions, if and when any embers ignite. To be totally upfront and honest, I also want to say there is some rumbling intention to share more personal and developed ideas - those that take me more time and effort - to paid subscribers sometime in the future. But for now the newsletter is free and I will always endeavour to provide some free content.
Seasons Blessings💫
