Thinking of you guys with all the wet! We got trapped by the heavy rains a couple of years ago, coming back from Christchurch as the water was rising - got as far as Temuka before we had to find emergency shelter. Hoping that the rain eases off and the rivers start to lower tonight ❤️

Thank you love. The rain has definitely eased this morning and the two rivers of concern for us are receding. They're dry beds most of the time, always a bit alarming how quickly they change into raging torrents, like most of the "rivers" all the way down between us. That would have been a scary trip home, was it the 31st of May? We had emergency alerts sent for evacuation on that one!

Oh phew! It’s amazing how scary water can be when it comes down at that rate. Yes, that was 31 May 21 - we went up to Christchurch for Armageddon and left it a bit late to return despite all the warnings 🙄 won’t do that again! Seeing whole trees being carried by inexorable waves down the rivers was very sobering!

Yes, that was a pretty scary night! We were up the whole night, watching civil defence drive back and forth on our road. We were allowed to stay thankfully, but had our bags, the cats ready to go at any moment. xx

It was an interesting night and memorable birthday for someone! 😉 I actually baked him a real, quick birthday sponge around midnight. 😂
