I believe the feeling of “hygge” is a unit of measure for magic. Every Sunday I post “Hygge Highlights” a weekly roundup of moments we have experienced that felt especially cosy or magical in some way. Some generously shared by you through comments and chats. I also share small moments of my week which gave me a sense delight and wonder.
While sometimes our hygge moments are uniquely seasonal, they needn’t be. Hygge is the essence of what feels good at any time, in any season, not only Wintery hot chocolates or warm fluffy socks. I welcome you to slow down, breathe in nature and share what you observe in this stillness. These are magical moments no matter where in the world you are, no matter the season, no matter the weather.
As always I’m immensely grateful to you for being here and growing a magical community, empowering each other by appreciating the small stuff. I like to think we are a group of feel good junkies high on hygge.
Here are some of the moments you shared with me this week.
Drinking English tea in a cafe to escape the wild wind of the Wales coast. / Makes me think of that tiny light of hope blooming in the darkness of winter. / Beginning our new art diaries. / …it’s a twinkly nest for her majesty! (*The full moon) / The empty nests are easy to spot in the naked hawthorn trees. / I was looked after beautifully with a gorgeous home-made by husband curry. / …stayed for drinks and snacks, then dinner, then got home around 11. Really good night!
Here are some memories I made this week
Recently our youngest has expressed more interest in all things French, we revisited Sandrine Voillet’s “City of Dreams” and have been pouring over our (if rather dated!) France travel guides and recipe books. Oggling the decadent pâtisserie and gâteau together - I am absolutely thrilled to have another inspired Francophile and we have sourced the necessaries to create a Black Forest Gâteau.
A visit to the Botanic Gardens in Ōtautahi / Christchurch, observing that which appeared to be an adorable baby, certainly the fluffiest tiniest goldfinch I’ve ever seen, hopping down the rocks to the bank of the pond for a refreshing drink.
Not our usual Saturday lunchtime visitor… a lighter feathered wild? turkey nosying around our front garden and former “Wendy house” (Children’s playhouse) before being spooked and flying, high tailed down the drive and off to a neighbouring property.
Delighting in stroking the fluffy white / grey beads of emerging pussy willow on our Japanese Fodder Willows, over and over again. I can never get enough.
Admiring the full moon rise for Imbolc and her beautiful royal blue aura, rejoicing we have another full moon to look forward to later this month. Thank you for all your lovely Imbolc wishes, I hope you too are relishing in new energy.
If you enjoy receiving "Hygge Highlights" please do consider joining in with your own magical moments by leaving a comment or sharing the post with others. Hearing from you really means a lot to me and I love hearing about your seasonal observations, the delights you’ve seen, tasted or felt inspired by.
Seasons Blessings 💫

I enjoy reading people’s shared moments, they’re so different to one another. And the Botanical Garden looks so tropical and peaceful.
Have you seeing the French TV show, LUPIN? Inspired by the adventures of Arsène Lupin. It’s such a thrilling and fun Netflix series that shows some beautiful spots of Normandy, and of course Paris.
